Vertical Furnace
Vertical Fire Resistance Test Furnace
Large-scale fire resistance testing of vertical building elements with integrated combustion, instrumentation, specimen handling and pressure control.
Applications
Large-Scale Vertical Testing
- Walls and partitions
- Fire-resistant doors and shutters
- Lift landing doors
- Façade and curtain wall elements
- Glazing systems and glazed screens
- Penetration and linear joint seals
- Ventilation and smoke control ducts
- Fire and smoke control dampers
- Cable barriers
Typical Configuration
- Vertical furnaces of 4 × 4 m and 4 × 5 m supplied; a vertical furnace specified at min. 6.4 × 5.3 × 2.0 m (W × H × D) designed and commissioned; standard sizes 3 × 3 m and 4 × 3 m; custom dimensions per laboratory scope
- Furnace depth approx. 2 m
- Roof extension option for taller specimens; vertical tests up to 4 × 6 m delivered on a combi furnace
- Interchangeable heavy-duty specimen frames, preparation supports and handling arrangements
- Temperature, pressure and radiation instrumentation
- PLC/SCADA furnace control on a Siemens SIMATIC S7-1500
STARKOS engineers project-specific dimensions according to laboratory requirements.
Instrumentation & Specimen Handling
Measurement
Plate thermometers, furnace and specimen thermocouples, pressure transducers, radiometers, oxygen measurement and additional channels according to the project.
Frames
Interchangeable heavy-duty specimen frames, preparation supports and handling arrangements can be integrated.
Control
PLC/SCADA furnace control for burners, temperature curve, pressure, gas/air, alarms and safety functions.
Performance
- Furnace pressure control ±2 Pa at 20 Pa range, stabilized within 10 minutes
- Curve library: ISO 834, slow heating, HC, HCM, RABT, RWS and custom curves up to 1,350 °C
- Burner power option up to 12 MW for HCM and RWS curves
- Fully automatic control with manual override
- Gas-fired or light-fuel-oil-fired
Maximum temperature, burner power and curve set are specified per project; 1,350 °C is the capability ceiling of the range, not the rating of every furnace.
Refractory and Steel
- Pre-cast, pre-cured refractory concrete blocks: long service life, rapid repair without full relining
- Side walls in JM 23 / JM 28 insulating brick, backed by Ca-Si plates; roof and floor in low-thermal-mass, high-temperature concrete
- Fabrication to EN ISO 3834-2; all structural welds 100 % NDT tested; sandblasted and primer-coated
- Engineered thermal expansion margins prevent deformation during heating
- Minimized heat loss, so energy consumption per test and NOx emissions are lower
